Despite the significant focus on its maritime frontage, Portobello has minimal facilities for accessing the harbour. The remains of the once proud Portobello jetty offer scant assistance in coming ashore. No trailer sailor can be launched from the steep boat ramp at Portobello Boating Club and the close proximity of Portobello Road limits space for rigging and launching small craft.
